Volunteer and Internship Opportunities
Minimize

Volunteers and interns are crucial to the daily mission-centered services of Safe Connections and our fundraising capacity. Diverse opportunities to contribute valuable service are plentiful. Please check this page often to read about the latest openings. We welcome your involvement with Safe Connections.

Volunteer to Answer Calls to the Crisis Helpline

Crisis Helpline volunteers work hand-in-hand with staff members to make sure that no call to the 24-hour helpline goes unanswered. As a Crisis Helpline volunteer, you provide compassionate attention while connecting callers to the most appropriate referrals and resources. Your help covering the helpline is particularly needed overnight and on the weekends.

Requirements of Service

  • There is a six-week application window for each of the mandatory multi-session training programs held in January, May and August each year. An option to the training program is providing proof of equivalent training and experience. The Safe Connections training program incorporates collaborative instruction provided through the Missouri Council Against Domestic and Sexual Violence with our own curriculum. This comprehensive approach builds the knowledge, skills and confidence which are crucial to providing callers with the best possible support.

  • Once the training program has been completed, volunteers must be able to volunteer a minimum of 12 hours a month for one year. (Hours may be worked in one shift or spread out in a variety of shifts as short in duration as two hours.)

Download, fill out and fax (or scan and email) your volunteer application now. (PDF/1.3M)

Fall 2010 Training Calendar

Applications received outside the six-week application window will be kept. Safe Connections staff will contact you to confirm your application during the next enrollment period. To learn more about answering calls on the Crisis Helpline, contact Sandra Naeger at 314.646.7500 x108.
