Safe Connections on Campus
Minimize

One in four women is the victim of rape or attempted rape on campus.

Safe Connections on Campus engages college students in the work to end violence against women – on and off campus.

Our Safe Connections on Campus initiative provides a forum for dialogue and the exchange of ideas among colleges and universities in the St. Louis area. Safe Connections on Campus offers students the opportunity to take action on their home campus and to connect with students from other area schools.

One curriculum used, In Her Shoes, is an education tool in which participants move, do, think and experience the lives of women experiencing relationship violence. This eye-opening program shines compassionate light on victims, as evidenced by comments from local university students:
"It made me less judgmental toward people who do not leave abusive situations."
"The reasons to stay (in abusive relationships) are complex."
"Being in abusive situations can become a violence roller coaster of emotions!"

Students, faculty, and staff from various post-secondary institutions come together to build relationships, share information, and plan campus activities that raise awareness about relationship violence and sexual assault and provide resources for those seeking help.

Current partners include:  Maryville University, Washington University, Saint Louis University and the Saint Louis Community College system.
