Volunteers are crucial to the mission-centered services of Safe Connections and our fundraising capacity. Diverse opportunities to contribute valuable service are plentiful. We welcome your involvement with Safe Connections and encourage you to fill out our application.
Answer Calls to our 24-Hour Crisis Helpline
Crisis Helpline volunteers work hand-in-hand with staff members to make sure that no call to our 24-Hour Crisis Helpline goes unanswered. As a Crisis Helpline volunteer, you provide compassionate attention while connecting callers to the most appropriate referrals and resources.
Requirements of Service
There are mandatory* 48-hour, multi-session training programs in January, May and August each year. Also, Safe Connections partners with the St. Louis Ending Violence Against Women Network (SLEVAWN) for a collaborative Joint Orientation, and additionally hosts our own mission-specific training.
The Safe Connections training program incorporates instruction from the Missouri Coalition Against Domestic and Sexual Violence with our own curriculum. Specifically, this approach builds knowledge, skills and confidence to provide callers with the best possible support. To get an idea of the time commitment for training, click here to view a sample schedule.
*An alternative to the training program is providing proof of equivalent training and experience.
Contact Brigid Welch for more information.
Once the training program has been completed, volunteers must be able to volunteer a minimum of 12 hours a month for one year. Additionally, hours may be worked in one shift or spread out in a variety of shifts as short in duration as three hours.
Become a Safe Connections Young Professional
As a member of Safe Connections Young Professionals, you will work on behalf of a cause that impacts the entire St. Louis community–ending domestic violence and sexual assault. Furthermore, you’ll help to raise consciousness and increase funding for mission work by planning and participating in SCYP-hosted initiatives throughout the year.
Volunteer for a Special Event Planning Committee
Serving on an event planning committee provides many opportunities for contributing to the public awareness and fundraising for Safe Connections. Some committees meet during regular office hours, while others are only in the evenings. Visit the Events page of this site to learn more about the timing and unique features of our special events.
Volunteer for a Project Palooza Day
We are looking for volunteers who are willing to donate 3-4 hours during our quarterly Project Palooza Days to free up staff time to focus on clients. Projects can be anything, such as filing, stuffing envelopes, creating signage, organizing storage areas, labeling items, and making copies. These tasks are chosen because they require little to no training but affect work flow at the agency.
Volunteer for a Group Project
Have a group looking for a great volunteer project? At Safe Connections, we often have the need for groups to help us with painting, gardening as well as other volunteer opportunities. If you have folks looking for a way to help out in the community, this could be a perfect fit.
To learn more or volunteer for any of these opportunities, contact Dani Smith at 314.646.7500 x123.
